God and I spend an afternoon at the beach

Had an assignment for London’s Daily Mail a couple of weeks ago photographing former Brit football legend Robbie “God” Fowler.  Fowler is playing for Australian A-League team North Queensland Fury FC as their marquee import and striker.  Read Mike Dickson’s story here

My 18th Townsville Crocodiles poster in a row (Wow, I really am getting old!)

I’ve just managed to get hold of the latest Townsville Crocodiles team poster.  I shot this months ago but haven’t seen the results until now.  Maybe it’s a sign that I’m getting old but I can’t believe that this is the 18th poster I have shot for the Crocodiles.  I took the first official photos of the team (then called the Townsville Suns) when they entered the NBL competition way back in 1993.  Since then I have literally shot hundreds of thousands of frames of them doing everything and anything and have always been their exclusive team photographer.

I’ve seen plenty of players, coaches and front-office staff come and go in that time but one thing has ALWAYS remained constant.  You couldn’t work with a nicer bunch of people.

Anyway, let me know what you think or if you have any questions feel free to post in the comments.  Also, props to Katrina at Townprint for the graphic design on this poster, nice work!

AFL poaching NBL players? There’s a first!

Last week I was commissioned by Adelaide’s Sunday Mail to photograph 36er small forward Nathan Herbert who was in town for their NBL clash with the Crocodiles.  Only had 20 mins to do the shoot but managed to get a nice set of pics and considering it was such a beautiful day in Townsville I was compelled to shoot it outdoors and show off our great weather!

Nathan has fielded an offer from an AFL club who appear to be making the most of the unstable National Basketball League and snapping up freakishly tall & fit athletes.  Who can blame them?

Anyway, like most of the NBL players Nathan was absolutely superb to work with.  Thanks heaps Nathan!  I’ve added a gallery below to show you what sort of pics I supply to a paper from a job like this.

The Townsville Crocs pose with their sponsors

It was that time of year again last night for sponsors of the Townsville Crocodiles to get together with their team for seaside drinks, canapes and to be part of their own unique team photos.

I have been shooting for the Townsville Crocodiles for 16 years and in that time have seen many, many players, coaches and administrators come and go but one thing remains the same.  Unlike many other professional sporting teams, these guys are always friendly and easy to get along with.  Yes, the NBL is struggling and basketball is going through a rough phase in Australia but if its survival hinged solely on the attitudes and professionalism of the players then it would be a runaway success!

Here’s a quick look at the 2009-2010 team on location yesterday.
