Great calibration with a Gretag Macbeth Eye-One Display
Posted by Cameron in Apple, How do I do that, Photography, Technology, Video on March 1st, 2010
I have been using a Gretag MacBeth Eye-One Display monitor calibration tool for quite a while and thought I’d take a few mins to give you a quick run-down showing the simplicity of the calibration process. It really is easy peasy. And the quality of the calibration is excellent! Find out more info on this device at the manufacturer’s link here (note: this product has been replaced with a newer model)

I was asked to photograph the first day of the barramundi season today so I thought I could make a great pic at Townsville’s Aplins Weir where there would normally have been up to 100 fisherman there to celebrate the opening of the season. The recent rains would normally have provided a perfect start to the season as plenty of food was swept down rivers and streams to the waiting barra. The problem however – the dam spill gates had to be opened and therefore instead of a gentle flow, we got 100,000 litres a second over the dam wall.
So, all I ended up shooting was a handful of pics that I got a bit carried way with in Lightroom and a video to show you what the flow was like. [Skip past the gallery for the video]

Managed to get some time yesterday for my first round of golf in over two years. It is pretty hot, dry and dusty at the moment where I live so that brought plenty of wildlife out onto the course. Heaps of wallabies and water monitors as well as heaps of parrots, kingfishers, lorikeets and magpies. Even with the heat it was still great fun and we got to see a couple of Mertens Water Monitors having what looked like a fight right next to one of our balls! Shot this quick video with my iPhone…
Eventually… a rap song for the Nikon v Canon war
Posted by Cameron in Equipment, Just for Laughs, Photography, Video on November 30th, 2009
Just stumbled across this rap video on the web. Pretty good for a laugh (if you’ve got a weird sense of humour!) Lyrics below
This is a story from not long ago
about a boy and a girl who fell in love like whoa
but there was a problem I didn’t count on
the fact I was a Canon and she was a Nikon
The photo community was too far gone
they couldnt appreciate what we had goin’ on
we had similar features, made similar pictures
we really weren’t that different but they still couldn’t see
I auto focused on her sexy body
buttons to push didn’t know where to get started
I never thought I’d fall for a D200
but she was so hot, she was all that I wanted
[Chorus]
My 1DS mark III
felt more complete
when we were together she said my shots were so unique
But soon you’ll see
we could never be
like Romeo and Juliette
our families disagreed
Ohh Ahh Polish my lens girl
oooahh polish my lens girl
ohh-ahh polish my lens girl
dont leave a thumb print on that lense girl
The two sides always at war
all across the message boards
Dpchallenge what the fuck yo
they could never let go
of the hate no thats for ’sho
the Nikon gang whooped my ass and made me go
The 70-200 in my pants wouldnt fit inside her Nikon body
made me wear a UV-filter, which I’m against, but shes my shawtay
Mount her on my tripod and screw her on and off and on again
make her take my picture and say I’m the best thats ever been
[Chorus]
Cause I’m a Canon gangsta and your a Nikon shawtay
I wanna take a picture of that rockin bootay
We couldnt keep the act up we just had to face the facts
but hey look on the bright side at least we’re not a Pentax
Google Chrome OS launched and now running on my Mac!
Posted by Cameron in Apple, Internet, Just for Fun, Personal, Technology, Video on November 20th, 2009
Google’s new Chrome operating system was revealed yesterday and won’t officially launched until late next year but as the entire OS has gone “open-source” today it hasn’t taken too long for a very early ‘buggy’ version to be available. It can only be installed in a virtual machine but what the heck, it’s worth playing with for a self-confessed geek!
More info on the Chrome OS launch at this link, more info on the virtual machine download at this link and a screencast video of it running on my machine below. Enjoy the geekfest
