AFL poaching NBL players? There’s a first!
Posted by Cameron in Newspaper, Photography, Sport on November 28th, 2009
Last week I was commissioned by Adelaide’s Sunday Mail to photograph 36er small forward Nathan Herbert who was in town for their NBL clash with the Crocodiles. Only had 20 mins to do the shoot but managed to get a nice set of pics and considering it was such a beautiful day in Townsville I was compelled to shoot it outdoors and show off our great weather!
Nathan has fielded an offer from an AFL club who appear to be making the most of the unstable National Basketball League and snapping up freakishly tall & fit athletes. Who can blame them?
Anyway, like most of the NBL players Nathan was absolutely superb to work with. Thanks heaps Nathan! I’ve added a gallery below to show you what sort of pics I supply to a paper from a job like this.

Shot the Townsville Crocodiles team photos last week making it 17 seasons in a row I have done this for the club. What a great bunch of guys! Nice that two out of the three national sporting teams in Townsville have players who are friendly and seem genuinely happy to chat and be photographed. The lineup for the NBL team looks pretty slick with them to be led again by Corey (Homicide) Williams and returning Boomer Peter Crawford. Here’s a pic of Corey from our session last week. See you at the game!
Update: Want Corey on your desktop? Here’s seven different resolutions to suit heaps of screen sizes… Enjoy

While Greg Vanderjagt is doing a great job at the Crocodiles this season I can’t help but think that Kenny George from the University of North Carolina – Asheville would be a handy addition in the pivot position!
7′ 7" (231cm) and 360lb (163kg). As a matter of a fact he would probably be ok playing prop for the Cowboys, so long as you only needed him for a couple of minutes! Go Kenny!

JR – The footy star!

All round nice guy and master dribbler John Rillie made his commentary debut tonight but surprise, surprise – he was calling rugby league and not his lifelong sport basketball. Was great to see him on the sideline at the Cowboys v Titans NRL game – keep it up JR, I’ll watch for you on The Footy Show soon!
