F16 Falcons shot from Castle Hill, Townsville, Australia
Posted by Cameron in News, Newspaper, Photography, Video on September 27th, 2009
Ventured down to take a look at F16 Falcons from the USAF Thunderbirds complete their final practice before taking part in an airshow in the northern Australian city of Townsville. It would have been superb if not for a massive dust storm that has swept across eastern Australia over the past 5 days. Visibility was very limited and it really spoiled the opportunity for some cracking photos. Anyway, was still good fun, worth the effort. Anyway, knocked up this quick video to give you an idea of what we saw. You can either view here or click the blue title at the top of the video to view in 1280×720 HD on the Vimeo.com site.
Thunderbirds are go!
The United States Air Force Thunderbirds flew their F16 Falcons into Townsville, Australia today ahead of a big airshow planned for the weekend. I was there to shoot them for ‘Uncle Rupert’ and took the opportunity to grab a bit of HD Video as well. Probably a good thing cause it made me realise how urgently I need a fluid head tripod! Trying to manhandle a 5DMkII with a 400 f2.8L IS on a monopod in the wind while shooting video AS WELL AS shooting stills on a 1DMkIII with a 70-200 f2.8L IS is truly tricky. But I guess that’s why I’m paid the measly bucks eh?
Here’s a video I knocked up with a few stills tossed in. Feel free to watch it here or click the link on the video to head over to Vimeo and see it in HD. Hope you like it!
Amazing jet man!

The Jet Man, Yves Rossy, a former Swiss military pilot, designed and built a deployable 3-meter wing, holding kerosene fuel for 2 jet engines fixed to the tips and attached it to his back. Rossy launched from an aeroplane and flew for 4 minutes, ascending and traveling at speeds over 100 knots, landing by parachute. This would have to go close to being the ultimate adrenaline rush! Amazing bird strike video

I fly quite a lot and it is incredible to see how simple it is to stop a jet engine. Admittedly though, it is comforting to see how well a passenger jet flies on one engine.
