Thunderbirds are go!

The United States Air Force Thunderbirds flew their F16 Falcons into Townsville, Australia today ahead of a big airshow planned for the weekend.  I was there to shoot them for ‘Uncle Rupert’ and took the opportunity to grab a bit of HD Video as well.  Probably a good thing cause it made me realise how urgently I need a fluid head tripod!  Trying to manhandle a 5DMkII with a 400 f2.8L IS on a monopod in the wind while shooting video AS WELL AS shooting stills on a 1DMkIII with a 70-200 f2.8L IS is truly tricky.  But I guess that’s why I’m paid the measly bucks eh?

Here’s a video I knocked up with a few stills tossed in.  Feel free to watch it here or click the link on the video to head over to Vimeo and see it in HD.  Hope you like it!

Amazing jet man!

The Jet Man, Yves Rossy, a former Swiss military pilot, designed and built a deployable 3-meter wing, holding kerosene fuel for 2 jet engines fixed to the tips and attached it to his back. Rossy launched from an aeroplane and flew for 4 minutes, ascending and traveling at speeds over 100 knots, landing by parachute. This would have to go close to being the ultimate adrenaline rush!
