A tattoo that must break Greg Inglis’ heart

A couple of NRL seasons ago I went to the aboriginal community of Palm Island with Melbourne Storm players Greg Inglis and Will Chambers.  Who would have thought that a couple of years later this photo could sum up the feelings of fans and many of the players.

Greg had “Premiers ’07″ tattoed on his chest right near his heart after the Storm won the 2007 NRL premiership.  Now, after they have been stripped of both the 2007 and 2009 premierships it must pain him to even look in the mirror.

Bulldogs too strong for the Cowboys at home

Last night saw the Bulldogs travel to Townsville to take on the normally tough-at-home Cowboys.  I thought it was a pretty good match with the Bulldogs coming out on top 22-12.

The match was held up twice thanks to two MASSIVE head clashes between Jarrad Hickey and Carl Webb and then between Jamal Idris and Willie Tonga.  I was only about three metres from the second head clash and I can’t understand how Willie Tonga even got up.  Ok, he was very groggy as he was led from the field but believe me, head clashes don’t come any bigger than that.  I would have been happy to be out of hospital in under a week!  Hickey was taken from the field on a medi-cab but thankfully he was fine by the end of the game and should be right to play next week.

Here’s a short 30 second Channel 9 highlight package showing the head clashes.

Here’s a few pics from the game to whet your footy appetite.  All pics with Canon EOS 1DMKiii and Canon EF 400 f2.8L IS USM / Canon EF 24-70 f2.8L

Panthers topple the Cowboys at home…

Shot the North Queensland CowboysPenrith Panthers NRL match last night.  Quite dull really, maybe it has a bit to do with the recent controversy that is surrounding the NRL and some of the halfwit players involved in the game.  I’m not sure if it is just me but I am pretty tired of that code.  After dealing with the true gentlemen involved with V8 Supercar racing and the great guys with the North Queensland Fury it is difficult to come to terms with the kindergarten mentality of some of the rugby league players as well as more than a few club officials!  Anyway, that is my rant for now :-)  Oh, if you are interested, the Cowboys lost 20-28…

Here’s a few snaps from the game, all shot on Canon EOS1DMkIII’s and 400 2.8L IS USM and 70-200 2.8L IS USM lenses.

Australia’s Miss Universe v NRL bonehead

Australia’s contestant in the 2009 Miss Universe competition Rachael Finch returned to her hometown over the weekend and put in an appearance at the Cowboys v Roosters game.  At least that gave us snappers something pleasant to look at!  Don’t stress Genesis Spirit cheersquad, you are up there too! :-)

On a night where I was assigned to cover a team coached by a bonehead it was a welcome relief!

It’s Rabbit stew for the Cowboys!

Shot the NRL match between the North Queensland Cowboys and the Russell Crowe owned South Sydney Rabbitohs last night.  What a spanking!  The Cowboys ended up 46-12 winners with the backline showing that they are a real force to be reckoned with!  Both centre/wing combos of Willie Tonga & Ty Williams and Ashley Graham & John Williams looked last night to be as good or better than most in the competition.  All the Cowboys need now is Webb and Kaufusi to perform at 100% and we will have a virtually unbeatable team.  Anyway, that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it :-)

Here’s a few of my pics from the game and some clippings.
